Description of the subject
The department conducts research, development, teaching and industrial collaboration in the field of Materials and Production Engineering. The activities are primarily aimed at the mechanical manufacturing industry, but some parts of the production research area are highly relevant to other industrial sectors as well. The subject area is multidisciplinary and very applied in its nature, although some research questions are of a more fundamental nature, and broadly covers the methods, equipment and systems used to produce discrete and physical products in a competitive manner. The research also conducted on the behavior of the materials used in the various stages of processing and throughout the life cycle of the product, including sustainable recycling, and methodologies for measuring, analyzing and assessing the performance of the processing chain from various production-related perspectives, not least quality issues, resource use, efficiency with a focus on sustainable circular industrial production.

Work duties
The Division of Production and Materials Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering Sciences, LTH/LU needs to recruit a Researcher in the above subject area. The need for strengthening the research team is due to new research projects in automated quality control in connection with, among other things, hole-making (primarily drilling) operations in fibre-reinforced composite materials and also as research support for the Master Programme "Production and Materials Engineering". The aim of the announced position is also to strengthen the Programme's course content towards automated quality control and associated process feedback in machining and related shearing operations. The current position is central to Lund University's strategic research area SFO: Production (SPI@LU) and is connected well with the University's strategic plan.

The duties of a Researcher mainly include conducting research but also supporting teaching and adapting new research results to courses and seminars and other means to disseminate research outcomes and information. Teaching may be included in the duties, but not more than one fifth of the working time. 

Duties include:

  • Research in the above-described subject area.
  • Adapting research findings to teaching material.
  • Teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level.
  • Supervision of graduate and postgraduate students.
  • Seeking external research funding.
  • Interaction with industry and society.
  • Administration related to the above tasks.

Qualifications  
Required qualifications for the position are:

  • A PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position. 
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English. 
  • Documented experience from both theoretical and experimental research work in the relevant subject area.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Experience in adapting research results to teaching material such as textbooks, handout material, seminars and laboratory exercises.
  • Experience of industrial collaboration on the Research and Development level.
  • Experience of research performed in different environments.
  • Experience of cooperative research involving both the fundamental and applied nature of studies.
  • Experience and good ability to work with different organisations and different categories of personnel.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish.
