Placement and disciplinary specialisation
The Department of Arts and Cultural Sciences at Lund University is a multifaceted disciplinary environment for research and higher education, with around 90 employees and approximately 1700 students per year. The Department of Arts and Cultural Sciences runs several research environments and study programmes in the first, second and third cycles, distributed over nine divisions and two specialised centres.

The position is located at the Division of Ethnology, which is part of the Department of Arts and Cultural Sciences. The division runs first-cycle education in Ethnology specialising in cultural analysis, second-cycle education in the international Master’s degree programme in Applied Cultural Analysis, as well as short courses taught in English. The division also offers research studies in Ethnology. Ethnological research aims to understand and explain historical and contemporary societal phenomena from a cultural perspective. The studies focus on the practices of everyday life, on cultural encounters, power structures and norms. Besides developing cultural theory and ethnographic methodology, the ongoing research at the division can be summarised under three themes: Culture, Body and Health, Cultural Heritage and Use of History, and Cultural Identity. 

Duties
The duties of the position consist of teaching in the division’s first-cycle programme in Ethnology and in the Master’s programme in Applied Cultural Analysis. Teaching may also be required within other adjacent subjects at the department. Besides lectures and seminars, teaching also includes course responsibility, course development and course administration, as well as supervision of degree projects. Supervision and teaching at the research studies level may also be required. The position also includes some time for research, which the successful applicant will be expected to use for their own research and publishing activities in such a way as to contribute to the development of the subject. The applicant should be positively inclined to take on assignments such as division responsibility. In addition, the holder of the position will be expected to participate actively in the joint activities at the department and the division and to be engaged in ethnology as a subject of teaching and research.

Required qualifications

• Completed doctoral degree or equivalent research expertise relevant to the subject area in question and the duties included in this post.
• Demonstrated teaching expertise.
• Completed training in teaching and learning in higher education amounting to at least five weeks or acquired equivalent competence by other means.
• The ability to teach in Swedish, Danish or Norweigan, in addition to English, upon employment.

Assessment criteria
the degree of research, teaching, administrative and other expertise that is of value in view of the work duties and subject matter of the post as well as other personal skills of relevance to perform the duties well.

• a good national and international standing as a researcher,
• good teaching ability, including a good ability to conduct, develop and lead teaching and other educational activities at different levels and using a variety of teaching methods,
• an ability to participate in supervising doctoral students,
• an ability to participate in and develop public engagement and other outreach activities, 
• an ability to otherwise lead and develop activities.

Additional qualifications for the position, in descending order of importance:

• documented experience of teaching in ethnology or teaching that addressed issues of relevance to ethnology
• a doctoral degree in ethnology or another relevant research studies subject and documented research on issues of relevance to ethnology
• documented experience of applying for and obtaining research funding in competition
• documented experience of supervising Bachelor’s and Master’s degree projects 
  documented good ability to collaborate in education and research 

In the assessment, equal consideration is given to teaching expertise and research expertise.
