The Centre for Language and Literature announces a vacancy for a 100% substitute senior lecturer position in Yiddish. The position begins 1 August 2022 and ends 30 June 2023.

Candidates for the position of senior lecturer must meet the following requirements.

  • Completed doctorate PhD or equivalent scientific qualification, or other professional abilities relevant to the subject matter of the post and the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated expertise in teaching skills.
  • Completed higher education pedagogy training of at least five weeks or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge.

The assessment is based on the degree of scientific, pedagogical, administrative and other skills relevant to the subject matter and duties of the position, as well as a general personal ability to carry out the duties of the position well.

The position includes 50% teaching, 20% research and 30% course development (expressed as a percentage of the position's total duties).

The position includes course development, teaching and examination of the following Yiddish courses. All courses are given in English and are distance learning courses:

HT 2022
YIDD10, Yiddish: Beginner's Course I, 15 credits
YIDC03, Jewish Cultural Responses to the Holocaust, 15 credits

VT 2023
YIDD20, Yiddish: Beginner's Course II, 15 credits
YIDC02, The Golden Age of Yiddish Film: An Introduction to Jewish Culture, 15 credits

Requirements for the position are very good knowledge of both English and Yiddish.

Previous experience with distance learning and teaching similar courses are useful qualifications for this position.

Any paid holiday leave incurred must be taken within the period of employment. If research is part of the position's duties, any research carried out must be reported in the Humanities and Theology Faculty's research reporting system before the conclusion of the employment period.
