Description of the workplace

The research group Proactive, integrated care (PRICE), at the Department of Health Sciences within the Faculty of Medicine, performs health scientific research with a focus on the provision of healthcare and social services and how they can be designed to best meet the needs of patients, relatives and healthcare professionals. The research is based on the perspectives of patients and relatives and several projects aim to develop or evaluate complex interventions. The group perform research in various sectors such as cancer rehabilitation, surgical care, oncological care and palliative care. The research group includes senior and junior researchers as well as PhD-students and represents various professions such as nursing and physiotherapy. The group is led by associate professor Jimmie Kristensson and is located at the Health Sciences Center in Lund.

We are now looking for a motivated PhD student for our project "Rehabilitation on equal terms - A study focusing on recovery and mortality of migrated women with breast cancer: The ReMig study" which aims to create better conditions for individualized and equal cancer care. The project is funded by Forte and carried out in an interdisciplinary research environment at the Department of Health Sciences in Lund University including cooperation within Region Skåne.

Duties and responsibilities

The education at postgraduate level is intended to lead to a doctoral degree in medical science. The purpose of the doctoral project is to enhance knowledge about rehabilitation with a focus on the need of rehabilitation, the rehabilitation process and mortality in migrated women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Both quantitative and qualitative methods will be used for data collection as well as analysis. The supervisors represent nursing and physiotherapy.

With the support of the supervisors, the doctoral student will participate in administration, data collection, analysis and results related to the research project. The doctoral project includes four sub-studies which will be reported as scientific articles in English. The doctoral research project is summarized in a framework report in English and presented in a doctoral dissertation.

The doctoral student must also take the required courses at postgraduate level, actively participate in seminars and other relevant activities such as national and international conferences and become acquainted with literature relevant to the research area. Furthermore, active participation in knowledge transfer is included, such as oral presentations both within and outside the research community.

Travel in connection with data collection and other assignments may also occur.

Qualifications

The requirements for the position are:

  • Completed basic level of education in health sciences (nursing, physiotherapy) or a field relevant to the project 
  • Good computer skills
  • Good knowledge in spoken and written Swedish or other Scandinavian language
  • Good knowledge in spoken and written English
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be able to manage good working relationships with others
  • You take initiative, are flexible, pedagogical and also culturally aware and value differences.

The following are considered merits for the position:  

  • Interest and documented practical experience of care and / or research in surgical or oncological activities or cancer rehabilitation
  • Interest in equal care and issues related to migration

Further information

Employment is a full-time, fixed-term position of 4 years, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5 Section 7. Starting date is September 1, 2022 or according to agreement.

Eligibility
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

A student with a non-Nordic undergraduate degree must have knowledge corresponding to 3-year upper secondary school competence in English (passed test) if the home language is other than English.

Basis of assessment
The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.
