The Centre for Languages and Literature has a vacancy for a general temporary position as a university lecturer in the subject of Ukrainian. The appointment covers the period 1 August 2022 to 30 November 2022.

To be eligible for employment as a university lecturer, the applicant is required

- to have completed a degree at second-cycle level (or equivalent) and have other qualifications of relevance to the subject matter and duties that form part of the post

- to have demonstrated teaching proficiency, and

- to have completed a course in higher education teaching or have otherwise acquired equivalent expertise over at least five weeks.

Exemptions from the requirement for the course in higher education teaching may be possible if this is deemed justified in the light of other qualifications.

The position includes 70% teaching, 10% continuing professional development and 20% administration (expressed as a percentage of the total scope of the position).

The position includes course development as well as teaching and examination on our Ukrainian Language for Beginners course, with clear emphasis on everyday communication:

“Ukrainian Language for Beginners” (5 ECTS)   (100 clock hours)

The course will be taught through the medium of English and is a remote learning course based on real-time lectures in Zoom.

The assessment will be based on good subject knowledge, a very good command of English and an extremely good command of Ukrainian (equivalent to native speaker level), good teaching skills, use of varied teaching methods and other personal abilities relevant to the successful performance of your duties, and personal suitability for the post.

As part of the position, the successful candidate will teach our Ukrainian Language for Beginners course (5 ECTS) that is to be delivered online through the medium of English in autumn 2022. This course focuses on everyday language use and communication.

The position requires a documented capacity for collaboration and previous experience of language teaching, Ukrainian language teaching and remote learning.
