Description of the workplace

The research group  Epigenetics and Chromatin Dynamics at the Department of Experimental Medical Science within the Faculty of Medicine, is currently conducting research within to understand the importance of chromatin regulation during human brain developmentand and is at the forefront of its field. The research group is currently working on aims to understand the mechanism of SVA transposon regulation in X-linked dystonia parkisonism (XDP). The research group is led by Dr Christopher Douse. We are now looking for a driven and experienced projectassistant for this pilot project who is expert in neural stem cell culture and neuronal. Work duties and areas of responsibility

You will be responsible for developing, maintaining and analysing modified neural stem cell lines for profiling novel regulators of the XDP disease-causing SVA transposon.

Qualifications

Requirements for employment are:

-a masters in biomedicine or molecular genetics
-extensive experience of human neural stem cell (hNSC) culture and in vitro differentiations of hNSCs to neurons

- interest in neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders.

- experience of immunofluorescence coupled with high content microscopy to look at neuronal morphology

-to be open and collaborative and flexible about applying new technologies where appropriate in the project

Additional qualifications for the position are:

-skills in molecular biology techniques such as cloning, PCR and RT-qPCR

-interest in transposable elements

Further information

The employment is a fixed-term employment for 15 months at 100% of full time and starting 2022-07-01 or by agreement.
