Description of the workplace
Alexander Pietras’ Brain Tumor Biology group is part of the Division of Translational Cancer Research, of the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Faculty of Medicine. Members of the lab use in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro models to characterize phenotypic plasticity, mechanisms of therapeutic resistance, and heterotypic cell-cell and matrix-cell interactions in brain tumors. Supported by a recently awarded ERC consolidator grant, we are now looking for a motivated postdoc to join a project detailing radiotherapy-induced changes to the glioblastoma microenvironment.

Work duties and areas of responsibility
The successful candidate is expected to develop and lead independent research projects as well as contribute to other ongoing activities in the lab. Tasks include data analysis, method development, project planning, and scientific writing. The position requires work with laboratory animals. Active participation in local, regional, national, and international scientific meetings and seminars is expected. The candidate is expected to contribute to shared duties at the Division of Translational Cancer Research and can be expected to perform some administrative tasks, as well as contribute to supervision of undergraduate students.

Qualifications
Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant field (ideally cancer or stem cell biology), and experience and expertise in one or more of the following: cell- and molecular biology, in vivo modeling of cancer, bioinformatics. The successful candidate is expected to have first author publication(s) in journals relevant to the field, and strong communication skills in English. Candidates must be highly motivated to pursue postdoctoral studies independently within an international and interactive research group.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

- Experience of research in brain tumors and/or tumor microenvironment

- Experience of analysing single cell RNA sequencing data

- Hands-on experience with in vivo models of cancer

Further information
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment. A postdoctoral fellow is employed under a period
of at least two years and at most three years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement
“Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor-2022-02-01”
(“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow- 2022-02-01”) 
Start date:  2022-09-01 or according to agreement.
