Subject description
EU law comprises issues related to the study of the law of the EU institutions and its impact on the legal system of the Member States of the European Union. EU law constitutes a body of primary law (EU Treaties), secondary law (e.g. Directives and Regulations) and case law (most importantly from the Court of Justice of the European Union), which operates alongside and together with the national laws of the 28 Member States.
Duties
The duties entail a special responsibility for teaching and examination in EU-law especially European Business Law. This includes in particular State aid law, competition law, mergers and acquisitions and corporate law, as well as areas such as intellectual property law and banking and commercial law.
The duties include mainly the supervision of master thesis and teaching in our Master´s and PhD programmes as well as in the Faculty’s provision of distance and commissioned education, including recording and revision of recorded lectures in EU-law.
The majority of the teaching duties involve teaching in English.
The duties also include maintaining and stimulating the research and educational environment through teaching, supervision and collaboration with teachers, researchers, PhD candidates and students, as well as through collaboration with the wider society. The employee is expected to conduct active research and contribute to the development of the existing research environment in EU- law.
The employee is expected to carry out the work mainly in the workplace.
Qualifications
Pursuant to Chapter 4 Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, those qualified for appointment as a senior lecturer shall have a demonstrated pedagogical expertise, and shall have been awarded a PhD in legal science or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD in legal science or achieved the equivalent scientific competence or other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject of the employment and the duties that the post will involve.
For senior lecturers, the general qualification requirements include being suitable for and having the ability in general that is needed to satisfactorily carry out the duties of the appointment in question.
According to Lund University’s Admission Rules, the applicant shall also have completed a training in higher education teaching of at least five weeks or otherwise have acquired equivalent knowledge by other means in order to be eligible. If there are special reasons, those who do not have a higher education pedagogical education of at least five weeks may still be considered eligible.
Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria are the degree of the types of expertise required as a qualification for employment. As much attention shall be given to the assessment of teaching expertise as to the assessment of other qualifying criteria.
When employed as a senior lecturer, the following shall form the basis for assessment:
Special emphasis will be placed on good subject knowledge of EU-law and teaching experience in EU-law, especially in European business law. Moreover, special emphasis will be placed on broad subject competence.
Experience of teaching in English is a requirement.
Special emphasis will also be placed on experience of course directorship and examination. Since supervision of Master thesis and examination will be included, emphasis will also be placed on knowledge in academic writing.
Weight will also be given to documented experience in using and manage distance learning techniques for both smaller and larger groups of students. Weight will also be given to other administrative skills and merits that is needed to satisfactory carry out the duties of the appointment in question.

The position is temporary from 1 September 2022 until 31 January 2023
