MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-ray light.
Your team
Lead by the HSE Group manager, safety group consist of radiation safety, experimental safety and general safety team. We are a group of 20 personnel specializing in various safety aspects namely radiation safety, chemical safety (gases included), machine safety, fire safety, environmental safety and security. The team provides expertise and support for projects and operations in MAX IV by ensuring the compliance to Swedish safety standards and legal requirements, despite the challenging environment of a research facility that explores the unknown relentlessly.

The candidate will participate in Monte Carlo simulations of MAX IV accelerator and beamline components related with radiation safety. This includes implementing, running and processing the results from a full facility radiation models. These results will be used to design and verify the biological shielding requirements and improve the scientific performance of beamlines. We are developing in-house tools to provide a rapid detailed geometric description of the whole facility. We are looking for a person with strong scientific computational skills that can interface between the geometry and the physics, to provide numerical variance reduction, and propergation of functional probabilistic risks into the final risk assessments.
