Subject description
We are recruiting a researcher for 10 months to the project “Ecological speciation genomics: beyond coding genetic species differences”. This project addresses the role of gene expression in adaptation to a new host plant in the fly Tephritis conura. Two specific questions that will be addressed are 1) whether the differences in gene expression during different life stages reflect the strength of selection during these life stages, and 2) to which extent the genes that have accumulated coding genetic divergence also are differentially expressed. The researcher will perform gene expression analyses, help inform study design, and work closely with a PhD-student. The project is led by Associate Senior Lecturer Anna Runemark, and set within the Evolutionary Ecology of Plant Insect Interaction group in the biodiversity unit.
Work duties
The main duty is to perform research, including genomic analysis of RNA-seq data, and potentially contribute to planning of sampling design as well as analyze whole genome data. In addition to the the bioinformatical analyses of differential expression and which groups of genes, the researcher will synthesise the work for publication. The researcher is expected to take active part in the Evolutionary Ecology of Plant Insect Interactions group activities. The candidate will be collaborating with a PhD student and likely supervise MSc students within the project. There will be opportunities to develop independent projects and apply for research grants to fund these.
This researcher position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within evolutionary biology, evolutionary ecology, genetics or similar.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications
This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The main assessment criteria are:
Additional assessment criteria:
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the lab group and department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development. Skills in, or willingness to learn skills in RNA extraction can also be considered if all other criteria are fulfilled.
Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 10 months. The position will be full time (100%). Please contact Anna Runemark (anna.runemark@biol.lu.se) for inquiries.
