The vacancy

The vacancy is for a position as a senior lecturer (assistant professor) of unlimited duration in Neurobiology at the Department of Experimental Medical Science.

Tasks and responsibilities

The work tasks and responsibilities include teaching and research in neurobiology.

An important part is to develop competitive research in neurobiology and includes studies of the cells of the nervous system and their function in health and disease. The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to work within an internationally leading research environment in neuroscience.

The holder of the position is expected to lead scientific research in neurobiology on an international level and at the same time stimulate colleagues and doctoral students to local collaborations that develop the department’s broad activities further. It is also expected that basic studies of functions and mechanisms will be able to contribute to new applications in, for example, diagnostics, treatment and/or prevention. This should preferably be done in close collaboration with other scientific research groups at Lund University or Skåne University Hospital, as well as international research environments.

The successful candidate is expected to conduct wide-ranging scientific research, preferably in joint collaborations with international groups. The position also includes internal and/or external positions on boards or committees. The tasks and responsibilities also include teaching and academic tutoring and supervision at the undergraduate (first-cycle), second-cycle and doctoral levels, administrative tasks and responsibilities, along with interaction/collaboration outside of the academic community.  Other tasks and responsibilities may also be included as a part of the position.

Qualifications

Pursuant to Section 4 of Chapter 4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100), a person qualified for appointment as a senior lecturer has shown excellent expertise in scientific research and has earned a doctorate degree or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the position and the tasks and responsibilities that it will entail.

Teaching expertise in teaching at the university level is also a prerequisite. Pursuant to Lund University’s Academic Appointment Procedure, applicants must have undergone at least five weeks of teacher training in teaching and learning in higher education or have acquired the equivalent knowledge and skills in some other manner, in order to be eligible for consideration for the position, unless there are special reasons to derogate from the rules. In the event that the successful candidate is deemed to have special reasons for not having completed five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education at the time of taking up the position, the successful candidate will be obligated to complete such training within two years of assuming the position.

Assessment criteria

The applicant must have displayed research and teaching expertise of relevance to the subject. The applicant should demonstrate leadership skills, demonstrate the ability to interact with the surrounding community and have good collaborative skills. In assessing qualifications, particular importance will be attached to research expertise.

Special consideration will be given to those with :

- Experience with having supervised doctoral students as the principal academic supervisor to obtain their doctoral degree.

- Ongoing national (e.g. VR) and international financial grants as project leader/supervisor as well as collaboration in international consortiums (e.g.  EU networks).

- Engagement with conducting experimental and translational focused medical research with clear collaboration with other research disciplines.

- Future scientific research plans and vision will be assigned great importance.
