Researcher in Water Resources Engineering – Contamination of the water resources with PFAS and survey of the regional emission sources

Description of the workplace
Water Resources Engineering is a division within the department of Building and Environmental Technology at Faculty of Engineering at Lund University. At the division about 15 professors and other senior researchers teach and research a wide variety of water-related specialties. These include water resources, urban hydrology, hydro-dynamics, hydro-meteorology, water quality, climate change, coastal processes, geohydrology and flow in natural waters. The division has around 20 registered PhD-students. The researcher will mainly work with the researchers dedicated to geohydrology, water quality and flow in natural waters.

The subject of the researcher is to investigate the connection between the regional water quality and use of AFFF containing PFAS by fire and rescue services. The objectives of the research include analysis of the AFFF handling and related technical aspects; identification of the AFFF specimens; determination of the PFAS composition profiles in AFFF; and investigation of the mechanisms of the water contamination with PFAS. Furthermore, attention is given to investigation and development of the source specific PFAS treatment methods with an emphasis on the advanced ex-situ treatment techniques.
