Educational Sciences at Lund University

The Department of Educational Sciences was established in 2011 within the Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology and forms the central node in the network that constitutes the secondary school subject teaching programme at Lund University. Its responsibilities include teaching the core education courses (UVK) on the secondary school subject teacher training programme, the supplementary teacher education (KPU) for secondary school subject teachers and coordination of the placement courses (VFU). Since 2016, the department also encompasses the Division for Higher Education Development (AHU).

Lund University hereby announces a vacancy for a lecturer in Educational Sciences at the Department of Educational Sciences. This is a permanent position.

Duties include up to 80% teaching, 10% research and professional development and 10% administration and external engagement. The position has a special focus on the secondary school subject teacher training programme at Lund University and its core education courses (UVK). The lecturer is expected to participate actively in the internal and external outreach work of the department.

Work duties

• Teaching and supervision in the first and second cycle within the core education courses (UVK) on the secondary school subject teacher training programme.
• Teaching and supervision in the first and second cycle within the supplementary teacher education programme (KPU).
• To some degree, act as a teaching staff member with placement (VFU) responsibilities and make placement site visits
• Participate in the department’s work developing practice-orientated research 
• Course administration tasks/assignments may arise.

Those qualified for appointment as a lecturer must have: 

• completed a second-cycle degree or acquired corresponding knowledge, and have other skills of value in view of the subject matter of the position and the duties that it will involve.
• demonstrated teaching expertise 
• completed training in teaching and learning in higher education of at least five weeks or equivalent knowledge that has been acquired in another way.

The criteria for assessment are: 
• Good subject knowledge of relevance to the position and the duties that it will involve.
• Good teaching ability including a good ability to develop and pursue educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods.
• Very good professional experience or other experience of relevance to the post.

Specific qualifications of additional merit: 

1. A degree in education and good knowledge of the Swedish school system.
2. A third-cycle degree within the educational sciences and/or social sciences.
3. Experience of teaching within the core education courses (UVK) of the secondary school subject teacher training programme, especially those dealing in development and evaluation,
4. Experience of leading educational development work within primary and/or secondary schooling.
5. Experience of development in teaching and learning in higher education.

The ability to teach in Swedish or Danish/Norwegian as well as English is a requirement for taking up the position.
