Description of the workplace
Automatic Control is an exciting and broad subject, covering both deep mathematics and hands-on engineering. Historically it has been instrumental in many areas, from the early development of telecommunications to the space race. Today, driven by the need to engineer ever larger systems, Automatic Control has never been more relevant. The department has a stimulating and international environment consisting of PhD students, postdocs and teachers coming from all corners of the world. Research and teaching are conducted in an open and progressive atmosphere with challenges and cooperation both within academia and with industry, with national and international networks. Lund University and the Department of Automatic Control welcome applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

Do you want to be part of a research environment committed to address control challenges essential for a future sustainable society? Then these postdoctoral positions are aimed for you!

We offer
Lund University is a public authority which means that employees get particular benefits, generous annual leave and an advantageous occupational pension scheme.

Subject description
One project, Scalable Control of Interconnected Systems, is funded by an ERC Advanced Grant, a prestigious international grant aimed to give long term support for ground breaking research. The grant covers two postdocs and three PhD students with complementing competences. We expect two postdocs, one postdoc to more mathematically oriented, with competence in computational methods for systems and control, while the other has a strong background in control for energy networks. Also other types of expertise relevant for control of large-scale systems will be valuable.

The second project is interdisciplinary and spans machine learning, robotics, cloud-computing and real-time control, with a focus on achieving a breakthrough in the foundational algorithms, machine learning and system design requirements for scaling networked, distributed, robotic manipulation systems to a large network of cloud-connected robots. In particular, the candidate will work on the interconnection between real-time systems and robotics, and on handling system requirements that emerge when computational delays become relevant.

Work duties

The main duties involved in a post-doctoral position is to conduct research within the assigned project. Another assignment is to contribute to the general scientific discussion at the department and to teaching of PhD courses. Teaching may be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours.
