The department of Economic History, Lund is announcing one-two full-time positions for researchers/analysts for a period of two years. Part-time positions may also be considered.

Subject area

The work is positioned in the interface between economic history, international relations, political science and research policy.

Job description

The researcher(s)/analyst(s) will be working with a three-year project on the global enterprise of science and geopolitics. The project, led by Sylvia Schwaag Serger, studies the development of international scientific cooperation against the backdrop of changes in the international rules-based global order, converging (or diverging?) global research ethics and norms, and increasingly urgent global societal challenges which require international coordination and cooperation within research, development and regulation. Aside from scientific papers, we intend to develop educational offerings for students, researchers, public sector and industry. The researcher(s)/analyst(s) will be involved in developing and carrying out innovative, excellent and policy-relevant research and analysis of interest to foreign, economic, research and innovation policies. This is an excellent opportunity for working with policy relevant research on a topic of high importance for academia, industry and public sector in an internationally leading academic environment.  

Qualifications

We are looking for an excellent analyst with research and communication abilities who can make valuable written contributions (papers, analyses, policy briefs) on the above-mentioned topics.

Eligibility requirements:

  • University degree (PhD or equivalent) in a relevant field
  • Very good expertise in research design, methods and implementation
  • Track record of conducting research-based analysis and with synthesizing existing research and state-of-the-art knowledge for decision-makers and practitioners
  • Ability and willingness to work proactively and flexibly with several projects simultaneously, in a team-based, fast-paced environment
  • Ability and interest to quickly immerse themselves in new contexts (topic, ways of working, networks)
  • Very good ability to work with people from different backgrounds

The following are highly desirable:

  • Experience from working in relevant policy contexts (eg ministry, agency, international/national/regional organization, industry or institute/think tank)
  • Previous experience of having authored well-written analyses, policy briefs or equivalent outputs targeting decision-makers and practitioners
  • Experience of handling externally financed projects, contract writing and financial responsibility and accounting, as well as applying for external financing
  • International work experience
  • Knowledge research systems in different regions (eg Asia, Europe, Latin America)
  • Fluency in other languages than English (eg Chinese)
  • Ability to design and carry out bibliometric and quantitative text analyses
  • Ability to work as a team player

Employment

The position is for a 24-month period with placement at the Department of Economic History. The employment is full time but part-time options are also possible. Starting date: as soon as possible but at the latest early 2023.
