The research project is part of ScanOats, an industrial research centre with oat in focus.

Work duties 

The main purpose of this project is to identify new oat varieties with high content of different dietary fibers for further use in nutritional studies. The plan consists of developing a new method to identify lines with high content of arabinoxylan and avenanthramides using chromatography. Another part of the project is about determining the arabinoxylan molecular weight in oat. The research also includes conducting literature reviews. Other existing tasks within the research group may also be relevant.

The project assistant will assist in the research for the molecular characterization of arabinoxylans and β-glucans to better understand the mechanism in starch hydrolysis and to characterize the compounds at a molecular level. The analysis will be done using chromatography and various extraction procedures using enzymatic hydrolysis, alkaline extraction and other mechanical methods.

Qualifications  

Required qualifications for the position are:

Master’s degree in relevant subject, preferably biotechnology/ food technology and nutrition Very good oral and written proficiency (English)

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Previous experience of working with oat, arabinoxylans, starch hydrolysis. Investigation of oat avenanthramides and identifying high avenanthramide lines

Further information 

The position is a fixed-term employment for 12 months (100%), with starting date as soon as possible.
