Description of the workplace
Our research group is intrigued by how we can utilize the setting of normal embryonic nervous system development to understand tumor initiation. We have a highly transdisciplinary approach, merging the worlds of developmental and cancer biology. We are physically located at BMC in Lund and are part of the strategic research areas Lund Stem Cell Center (LSCC) and Lund University Cancer Center (LUCC).
We perform research of high quality while maintaining a stimulating and thriving environment. The group consists of 12 people with mixed experience and education (MSc students, PhD students, post-docs and technicians).

This project, that will lead to a PhD in molecular physiology, aim to determine events during normal development that leads to cancer in infants and toddlers.

Work duties and areas of responsibility
The PhD student will work with bioinformatic analyses as well as practical wet lab experiments. The candidate will work with programming in e.g., R. Practical parts in the lab includes hands-on chick embryo work as well as other animal models such as mice. Additional techniques that will be used are cryosectioning, immunohistochemistry, cell culture, microdissections, RNA/DNA preparations, cloning and single cell RNA sequencing.

The candidate will lead projects together with the PI and at occasions with other members of the group. Work tasks include presenting their work, participate in seminars, write scientific articles and collaborate with other scientists.

Qualifications
The requirements for the position are:
- Master of Science in Bioengineering or equivalent degree
- Extended experience with bioinformatic analyses of biological data including single cell sequencing
- Experienced in R programming
- Practical experience with hands-on chick embryo work
- Experienced with wet lab techniques such as cryosectioning, cell culture, microdissections and imaging
- The candidate needs to be fluent in spoken and written English and Swedish
- As a PhD student you need to be self-sufficient enough to drive your own projects
- Good communicative skills

Further information
The employment is limit of tenure, four years according to HF 5 kap 7§. It´s a full time employment with proposed start date 2022-10-15, or by agreement. 

Eligibility
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.
