Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

Job assignments
The research will focus on nonlinear partial differential equations. The position is a part of the research project From water waves to fusion - mathematical analysis of steady ideal flows, financed by the Swedish Research Council. The project focuses on analysis of a mathematical model for steady ideal fluid flows in three dimensions (Euler’s equations) using tools from nonlinear functional analysis (e.g. local and global bifurcation theory, Nash-Moser iteration). There are potential applications both in water waves and plasma physics – especially the confinement of plasmas in fusion reactors. If the applicant wishes, some teaching can also be included (at most 20%).

Qualifications
A PhD degree, awarded (or planned to be awarded before the commencement of the project) in mathematics is a requirement. You should have a strong background in partial differential equations, preferably related to fluid mechanics, free boundaries and/or nonlinear waves. You should have the ability to plan and carry out research of high quality and this should be reflected in your publications. You should also be motivated, have initiative, be able to work independently and in groups, and be perseverant. Good knowledge in spoken and written English is a requirement.

Assessment
The assessment will primarily be based on your research qualifications and potential as researcher. Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject. Here the quality of your publications plays a very big role, but the description of your research and your motivation for applying are also important. At a possible interview, your ability to orally present your research will be tested. In addition, the assessment will be based on the qualifications mentioned above.

Type of employment
