Job assignments
The research will focus on nonlinear partial differential equations. The position is a part of the research project From water waves to fusion - mathematical analysis of steady ideal flows, financed by the Swedish Research Council. The project focuses on analysis of a mathematical model for steady ideal fluid flows in three dimensions (Euler’s equations) using tools from nonlinear functional analysis (local and global bifurcation theory, variational methods, Nash-Moser iteration). There are potential applications both in water waves and plasma physics – especially the confinement of plasmas in fusion reactors. If the applicant wishes, some teaching can also be included (at most 20%).
Qualifications
A PhD degree, awarded (or planned to be awarded before the commencement of the project) in mathematics is a requirement. You should have a strong background in partial differential equations, preferably related to fluid mechanics, free boundaries and/or nonlinear waves. You should have the ability to plan and carry out research of high quality and this should be reflected in your publications. You should also be motivated, have initiative, be able to work independently and in groups, and be perseverant. Good knowledge in spoken and written English is a requirement.
Qualification requirements
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the date of employment decision. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.
Assessment criteria and other qualifications
This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers.
Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.
For appointments to a post-doctoral position, the following shall form the assessment criteria:
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S and OFR/S, dated 1st February 2022.
