Description of the workplace 

The Food hygiene and Food and bioprocess research groups at the Department of Food Technology, Engineering and Nutrition represent all aspects of food safety and risk assessment of food and food production. These research groups have several interdisciplinary collaborations in both academia and industry and perform basic research, as well as applied research for commercial purposes.

Work duties 

The employment includes participation in research projects with the aim to turn plant-based residues into valuable ingredients and products for the food market.

The work duties include implementation of fermentation processes, as well as microbiological analyses such as traditional cultivation methods, evaluation of diversity in bacterial communities and species identification using Next Generation Sequencing and bioinformatics, but also food analyses for the determination of e.g. protein, fibre and antinutrients. The work duties also include laboratory assistance in teaching and collaboration with industrial partners.

Qualifications  

Required qualifications for the position are:

A degree in Engineering with specialisation in Food Technology, alternatively a master degree in Biotechnology, a master degree in Food Technology and Nutrition, or corresponding merits. Very good knowledge and practical experience of basic microbiological methods, such as cultivation and isolation of bacteria. Very good oral and written proficiency in English. Experience of Next Generation Sequencing and associated bioinformatic data analysis. Experience of fermentation processes. Experience of basic food analyses.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

Good oral and written proficiency in Swedish. Good knowledge in scientific writing. Pedagogical experience. Experience of quantitative PCR. Experience of Sanger sequencing.

Further information 

The position is a fixed term position for one year at 100 percent of full time and starting by agreement.
