Description of the workplace
The research group Molecular Metabolism conducts research aimed at understanding why the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas do not function properly in type 2 diabetes. The research has been at the forefront of the field for several years. A major focus has been on molecular processes that regulate metabolic and genetic changes in the beta cell during the disease. The group is headed by Professor Hindrik Mulder and Associate Professor Malin Fex and contains several postdoc and technical staff. The group is located at CRC in Malmö.

Duties and responsibilities
The person we are looking for will work with different cell models for beta cells to understand the disease mechanisms of type 2 diabetes. Some studies will require stem cell work from patients with the disease who will be differentiated into beta cells. Work with different animal models for type 2 diabetes may also occur, as well as work with primary islets of Langerhans from mice, rats and humans. 

Qualifications
The employment requires:

  • PhD in the field of diabetes.
  • Previous experience of beta cell models (clonal cell lines but also primary islets of Langerhans and stem cells). 
  •  Great emphasis will be given to personal qualities. The tasks require that you are driven, focused and willing to work in teams. 

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Knowledge of stem cell differentiation into beta cell. 
  • Experience in type 2 diabetes research, islet cell physiology and mechanisms for glucose-stimulated insulin relase. 

Other 
The employment is a fixed-term employment (SÄVA) with a scope of 100% for 5 months with a desired entry date of 1 October in 2022.
