Description of the workplace

The research group for Clinical Memory Research conducts research in dementia. Our research is focused on defining and understanding biological processes in Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. We work both with cohorts of patients and cognitively unimpaired volunteers, who undergo extensive testing with neuroimaging, biomarker measurements and neuropsychological testing, and with animal- and cell biology experiments. The assistant researcher will join a growing multidisciplinary team of neuroscientists and clinical researchers, who are dedicated to increase the knowledge about neurodegenerative diseases. The long-term goal of our research is to contribute to the development of new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases where effective treatments are still lacking. More information can be found here. The research group is led by Professor Oskar Hansson. This position will be placed at Wallenberg lab in Malmö in Malin Wennström’s lab.

Work duties and responsibilities

The assistant researcher will focus on development of immunostaining techniques on retina and brain samples from patients with Alzheimer's disease and transgenic Alzheimer’s mouse models. Experimental studies on cultured cells from the retina and brain will also be included. Other tasks within the research group may also occur.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • Ph.D. in neuroscience, cell and molecular biology or a related discipline
  • Ability to independently develope and evaluate new methods.
  • Good experience of working with cell culture.
  • Good experience of immunostaining on tissue samples.
  • Excellent communications skills in English, both verbal and written
  • The applicant should be very interested in research on Alzheimer’s disease and exhibit a high intrinsic motivation. The person should also be thorough, but also get work done in a timely manner.

The following are considered to be a merit:

  • Research experience in the field of Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Good experience of working with cell culture gel matrix models (3D models).

Other information
This is a fixed-term position of 6 months, 100% of full time. Preliminary starting date is 1st of September or according to agreement.
