Description of the workplace
At the Division of Clinical Genetics and within the research group led by Professor Thoas Fioretos, we are looking for a part-time assistant researcher who will work with functional analyzes of genetic changes in acute leukemias. The research group has discovered a number of new forms of these diseases and work is underway to investigate in various experimental models how these changes give rise to acute leukemia and how new approaches can be developed for more targeted treatment.

What we offer
Lund University is a public authority, which means that you will have special benefits, generous annual leave and an advantageous occupational pension. We also have a flexitime agreement that creates good conditions for work/life balance. Read more on the University’s website about being a Lund University employee, Work at Lund University

Work duties and areas of responsibility
Tasks include advanced in vitro and in vivo studies of specific genetic changes, including gene fusions, associated with acute leukemia in children to understand how it causes disease. The work includes continued characterization of an already established transgenic mouse strain where the current fusion gene can be induced, transplantation studies, advanced FACS analyzes, gene editing with CRISPR-Cas9, single cell analyzes and work with basic molecular biological methods. The employee will work in a team of researchers with expert knowledge in genomics, bioinformatics and functional studies. The employee may also work in other projects that aim to understand why leukemia arises and to identify new approaches to targeted treatment.

Qualifications
The requirements for the position are:

  • Completed doctoral degree (Ph.D) in biomedical research, molecular oncology, molecular hematology or equivalent.
  • Very good knowledge and documented experience of working with transgenic models that are inducible and characterization of phenotypic effects in the hematopoietic system.
  • Very good knowledge and documented experience of working with FACS, gene editing with CRISPR-Cas9, and work with hematopoietic cells in vitro and in vivo.
  • Very good knowledge and documented experience of working with genetic changes that occur in acute leukemias.
  • At least four scientific publications in the field of biomedical research, of which at least two work as first author.

Meritorious for employment
In addition to the above requirements for the employment, we are looking for a candidate who can take their own initiatives, have a good ability to work independently but at the same time can work in a team-based approach. You also need to be able to both speak and write in English on a very good level.

Further information
The employment is for a fixed term as longest until 2024-01-26 at 30
percent of full time, to start from 2022-09-01 or according to agreement.
