The Department of Human Geography, Lund University, is looking to recruit one project assistant to work on topic “Public safety between practical policy and critical research”. This is an emerging area of research at the Department, combining approaches from scholarship on social planning and urban geography spanning practical applications in policy and critical policy analysis as well as quantitative and qualitative methods including GIS. We are looking for a project assistant to support the launch of this area of research. Activities include carrying out scholarly literature review, identification of scholarly communities working on related themes by making interviews or attending academic and professional events, and the identification of possible case studies and research questions which merit further investigation. There will be regular in-person meetings with the research team.

We are looking for a candidate who have demonstrated research experience (min Bachelor degree, preferably Master’s degree), has an interest in the question of public space and safety (including fear of crime), has some familiarity with both quantitative and qualitative research methods including Geographical information systems (GIS). The candidate should be enthusiastic about research, and be able to work independently and systematically to make a contribute to the formation of this research field. We also see it as a merit if the candidate has some knowledge of and experience with research on public safety from a geographical perspective.
