Description of the workplace
At the Division of Clinical Genetics, Senior Lecturer Karolin Hansén Nord heads a research group that explores complex genetic alterations in cancer. Although a well-known phenomenon in cancer, the underlying mechanisms are largely unknown and offer one of the most challenges paradoxes in cancer biology. Dr. Hansén Nord’s research group studies this phenomenon in primary bone tumors with the purpose to find new avenues for cancer treatment. Read more about our research here.

Work duties and areas of responsibility
The project aims to identify acquired genetic alterations underlying the development of primary bone tumors. The work includes bioinformatics analyses of data from massively parallel sequencing of primary tumor tissue and cell models. You will also publish articles in scientific journals, contribute to conferences and assist in the other work duties that the above-mentioned research project entails.

Qualifications
Qualifications required:

  • A PhD in one of the following subjects, biomedicine, medical biology, bioinformatics or a related area.
  • Documented experience with analyzing global genome, transcriptome and single cell sequencing data from primary bone tumors
  • Basic knowledge in the programming languages Python and R
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fluent in spoken and written English and Swedish

Scientific skills are the foremost criteria for employment. The evaluation of applicants will take research profile, documented experience and knowledge into account. Emphasis will also be held at personal skills and suitability. The assignments require that you can work independently, take initiative, and collaborate effectively with other members of the research group and its collaborators.
