Research group
The project is coordinated by Malin Inghammar, associate professor (docent), Department of Clinical Sciences Lund, in close collaboration with the research group EPI@LUND, led by Professor Jonas Björk. Within EPI@LUND, PhD students and senior researchers address different research questions associated with major societal issues by combining modern epidemiological methodology with detailed population data at the individual level. Research on applied causal inference is also a theme. The research is conducted in collaboration with other departments and faculties, and together with several universities, regions, and municipalities, a new Research Collaboration Initiative on Covid-19 vaccine uptake, effect and safety and improvement of pandemic preparedness has recently been established with substantial external funding from the Swedish Research Council (VR) and Sweden’s Innovation Agency (Vinnova), among others.

Work duties
An employment as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited merit employment that should give the employee an early opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and create conditions for further merit.

This is a project on epidemiological methods / applied medical statistics in the field of infectious diseases. The overall aims of the project are to investigate socioeconomic and demographic gradients in the risk of severe infectious diseases, with a focus on sepsis and covid-19, to study direct and indirect effects and long-term complications of infectious diseases, and to study how observational data and registry data can be used to estimate causal effects more generally.
The project will consist of both methodological parts that aim to develop new statistical and epidemiological approaches and applied parts that aim to study socioeconomic risk factors, long-term effects, and mediating factors through statistical analyses of individual-level data from quality registries, population- and health registries.

Daily work tasks will include study design and operationalization of research ideas, data extraction, management of large amounts of data, application of state-of-the art epidemiological methods and statistical analyses, interpretation of results, and scientific writing. Much emphasis will be placed on interdisciplinary discussions about the significance of the results with colleagues both within and outside the research group, as well as with stakeholders. You will also get the opportunityto present your scientific results at seminars and conferences, both nationally and internationally.

You will be involved in further development of the research environment in various ways, for example of by contributing to the organization of seminars, workshops, mini-conferences and reach out activities to stakeholders. You may also get involved in some teaching activities, as well other duties within the research group.
