The main purpose of this project is to identify hemoglobin proteins in oats for further use in nutritional studies. The work consists of developing a method for determining expression levels of these proteins under different growth conditions. Another part of the project involves optimizing expression levels of hemoglobins in microbial cells. The research project is supported by external governmental research grants.

The practical work involves extraction of nucleic acids from plants and bacteria, determination of genetic expression levels, cultivation of plants and microorganisms, protein purification, and protein characterization using spectroscopy. The work also includes conducting literature reviews. Other existing tasks within the research group may also be relevant.
Required qualifications for the position are:
Master’s degree in relevant subject, preferably biochemistry or molecular biotechnology Very good oral and written proficiency (English) Previous experience working with PCR and determination of genetic expression levels is needed.
