Description of the workplace

The Lund University Diabetes Centre (LUDC; www.ludc.med.lu.se) opens a position for a bioinformatician to be employed as a postdoctoral researcher.

LUDC is one of the largest diabetes research centers in the world with approximately 300 investigators and staff members working towards improved diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diabetes. The Centre combines expertise in genetics, epidemiology, statistics, bioinformatics, molecular and cellular biology, physiology and clinical diabetes and endocrinology to achieve these goals.

LUDC has large unique biobanks and databases with genome-wide data linked to national registries providing information on disease etiology, progression as well as outcome and treatment. The Centre has in-house platforms for most molecular genetic methods and metabolomics. Omics-information combined with extensive phenotyping allows a systems medicine approach to dissect the complexity of diabetes.

We aim to create a good work environment based on respect and consideration in our relation to each other. We strive to create an environment that promotes development and is stimulating to all employees.

Research area

A central theme of the Centre is to develop precision medicine to improve health and the quality of life of diabetic patients. The post-doc position is assigned to the research group Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disease led by Professor Olle Melander and is placed at the Clinical Research Center (CRC) in Malmö.

Job assignments

Applicants are invited to apply for a position as post-doc at LUDC. The employment is a fixed-term employment for two years (100 %) with the possibility of an extension for one more year (all in all, 3 years).

An ideal applicant will be instrumental for the continued expansion of advanced biostatistics concerning oral and intestinal flora, oral health and its significance for cardiometabolic diseases within the framework of Professor Olle Melander’s research group Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disease in collaboration with Daniel Jönsson who is Associate Professor in Periodontology.

The project will mainly focus on investigating the links between oral health, oral flora, intestinal flora, genetics and the risk of future cardiovascular diseases and diabetes in population-based studies.

We expect the successful applicant to be an experienced biostatistician who can analyze large microbiome datasets with complex statistical designs, can summarize and present the results in a report including publication-ready tables and figures, as well as contribute to article writing.

  • Proficiency in R.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team, including dentists, medical doctors, nutritionists, laboratory scientists, bioinformaticians, and data analysts.
