The position is based at the Division of Art History and Visual Studies, which is a part of the Department of Arts and Cultural Sciences. The division offers education at first-cycle level and 60-credit Master’s level in art history and visual studies, as well as a two-year 120-credit international Master’s programme in Visual Culture Studies. The division also teaches courses in English within the framework of Special Area Studies and a commissioned course aimed at professionals within the culture sector as well as health and social care. The division also offers third-cycle education in art history and visual studies.
The division conducts research on older, modern and contemporary art, architecture and the designed environment from historical, societal and aesthetic angles, as well as on images and other visual cues that are not categorised as art but that are important expressions of human knowledge and experience.
The link between art history and visual studies contributes to research that is less isolated according to discipline.
Work duties consist primarily of teaching and supervision within the division’s first-cycle courses and programmes in art history and visual studies, as well as the Master’s programme in Visual Culture Studies. Teaching may also be needed in other closely related subject areas within the department. In addition to lectures and seminars, course development, course administration and course director duties as well as paper supervision are counted as teaching. Supervision and teaching at third-cycle level may also occur. At least 20 per cent of the role is allocated to research, which the applicant is expected to use for their own research and to apply for research funding in order to contribute to the development of the subject. The applicant should have a positive attitude towards taking on duties such as head of division. The successful applicant is also expected to actively participate in the division’s shared activities such as seminars.
In the assessment of qualifications, teaching and research expertise receive equal consideration.
The application must conform to the instructions that can be downloaded at

The applicant is responsible for making sure that the application is complete, in accordance with the vacancy announcement and instructions, and for submitting it to the University by the application deadline through the recruitment portal.
The Academic Appointments Board normally selects a shortlist of applicants. This selection can be done in one or several steps and if needed with the help of external experts.
