MAX IV is responsible for the systematic work environment (SAM) for all its employees. In addition, it has an important role in educating and supervising all external users and contractors in terms of safety. This work is led by the Safety Group at MAX IV, which comprises of 20 people organized in three teams: General Safety, Experimental Safety and Radiation Safety.

The gas safety technician is part of the experimental safety team. The gas safety technician is responsible for supporting user experiments through monitoring, delivering, controlling, and implementing laboratory gas safety standards in MAX IV.  The gas safety technician maintains communication with experimental groups to purchase and maintain supply of experimental gases.

Work duties and areas of responsibility:

  • Maintain chemical/gas storage laboratory in accordance with safety laws and regulations 
  • Assist with experimental chemical/gas delivery installations when required
  • Prepare hazardous chemical/gas packages for shipment and transfer
  • Prepare and maintain complete, accurate, timely, concise and legible records of all chemical/gas, FASE safety compliance activities
  • Make routine and special observations of the status of chemical/gas safety systems and document summary findings
  • Communicate with experimental staff about chemical/gas needs and facilitate purchasing chemical/gas as needed
  • FASE Cleaning and Maintenance

Requirements:

  • Documented experience of working with gases, chemicals and FASE equipment at an experimental laboratory
  • Practical knowledge of gas equipment and cylinders
  • Experience working with toxic, hazardous gases under pressure
  • Ability to interpret chemical data sheet and hazard classifications 
  • Physically capable of moving a 50L, 80kg bottle of compressed gas
  • Experience as a chemical/gas technician at an experimental laboratory

Desirable:

  • Good collaboration skills, as well as knowledge and ability in Swedish and English, both in speech and writing
  • Proactive and solution focused person
  • Independent in executing operational tasks
