Description of the workplace 

The position is placed at Division of Biotechnology, Department of Chemistry. The Division conducts research and education at undergraduate and graduate level within various branches of biotechnology.  The Division runs several multidisciplinary projects in collaboration with industrial partners, involving the development of processes for transformation of renewable resources into chemical building blocks for sustainable chemicals and plastics suited for circular economy. Development of bio-based plastics is an important area where collaboration between biotechnology, organic- and polymer chemistry is crucial.

Work duties 

  • Active participation in research tasks of an international collaboration project dealing with the development of biobased monomers and polymers.
  • Synthesis of chemicals, monomers and polymers by bio- and chemical catalysis and their characterization
  • Take an active role in collaboration with other parties in the project
  • Write scientific articles and reports

Qualifications  

Required qualifications for the position are:

  • Master’s degree in the subjects of green chemistry and biotechnology, or a related discipline.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Knowledge and background in organic synthesis, functionalization and biotransformation of chemicals and monomers, polymerization, and / or spectroscopic and physico-chemical characterization,
  • Highly motivated and ability to conduct experimental tasks as a team member.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Education in green chemistry or biotechnology.
  • Theoretical knowledge and practical experience on chemical synthesis, biotransformation and characterization.
  • Product analysis with chromatography and spectroscopy.
  • Knowledge of bio-based chemicals, monomers and polymers.
  • Good skills in planning, design and organization.
  • Experience of working with industry or working in a company

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Further information 

This position is a temporary employment, 100 %, between 2023-01-01 and 2023-07-01 or by agreement.
