Description of the workplace
Cognitive science at the Department of Philosophy at Lund University is a broad subject where we study various aspects of natural and artificial cognition. (More information at www.lucs.lu.se)
Among other things, we study the evolutionary development of human thinking. To this end, we conduct research with chimpanzees and orangutans at Lund University's Primate Research Station Furuvik, where we study the cognitive abilities of these species. The announced project assistant position is connected to studies on communicative behavior in chimpanzees, and the socio-cognitive development of Sumatran orangutans. The studies are non-invasive behavioral observations of animals kept in zoos. Although the advertised position is focused on tasks within specific projects and you will work most closely with the project's two participants, you will also have access to the larger interdisciplinary environments constituted by Cognitive Science and the Department of Philosophy. The work will be conducted at the department's premises in Lund, but If interested there will also be an opportunity to spend time at Lund University's Primate Research Station Furuvik.

You will perform behavioral analyzes of videotaped data from the research in the projects described above. After an initial training period, you are expected to work independently with the assigned research tasks.
Qualifications
Requirements for employment are:
- Experience analyzing behaviors from video recorded data.
- A first- or second-cycle degree in cognitive science, biology, psychology or another relevant field.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Residence in Sweden during the entire period of employment.
Additional qualifications for the position are:
- Background in behavioral analysis with nonhuman great apes.
Further information
The position is a fixed-term employment for 6 months of 100 percent with a starting date of 2023-01-01 or according to agreement, however no later than 2023-06-30.
