Description of the workplace

The research group Molecular Vascular Physiology at the Department of Experimental Medical Science within the Faculty of Medicine conducts research into the function of blood vessels and is at the forefront of its field. The research group is currently working on the project “Stretch-sensitive transcription factors in smooth muscle and its significance in vascular disease”. The research group is led by Sebastian Albinsson and includes four additional employees. We are now announcing a PhD student position within the project. Work duties and areas of responsibility

As a PhD student, you will receive training and supervision that will prepare you for a future as an independent researcher. During the education, you will have increased responsibility for leading studies within the doctoral project, supervision of students and teaching. Your duties will mainly include laboratory work and writing scientific articles and dissertations. During the latter part of the education, you are also expected to apply for your own grants for your research and participate in international conferences.

Qualifications

Requirements for employment are:
-240 credits in medical/biomedical programme, of which 60 credits at advanced level

-At least 30 weeks of documented experience in experimental research in vascular physiology

-Documented experience with experimental methods such as cell culture, western blotting, qPCR, histology, microscopy and animal studies.

-Fluency in English is also a requirement

We will place grate emphasis on personal qualities. You must have good cooperation skills, good social skills and be meticulous and structured. You must also have a good ability for critical and analytical thinking

Additional qualifications for the position are:
-Independence

-Experience of research in stretch-sensitive transcription in smooth muscle

-Experience with GraphPad Prism

-Certification for work with animal experiments

The employment is a doctoral position up to 4 years at 100 percent with a start date of 1/2 2023 or by agreement.

Eligibility
Students with basic eligibility for third cycle studies are those who have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.
