Animal Technician in Regenerative Immunology - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

Description of the workplace
Associate senior lecturer Nicholas Leigh leads the research group Regenerative Immunology at the
Division of Molecular Medicine and Gene Therapy. Our overarching goal is to understand the factors
that allow for highly regenerative species to perform remarkable acts of regeneration (e.g. limb
regeneration). We are particularly focused on how the immune system promotes and allow for
regeneration in salamanders. Please read more about our research here.

We are now looking for an Animal Technician to care for our new salamanders and support with the ongoing projects in the laboratory.

Work duties and areas of responsibility
As our Animal Technician, you will help with the research in the ongoing research projects in the group. You will take care of and manage our salamander facility, which entails rearing and caring for various salamander species, monitoring water quality, cleaning tanks, and general management of our salamander colony.
This position also entails generating transgenic salamander lines, including
microinjections and the downstream genotyping. In addition, the tasks involve collaboration with
industry and the wider society.
Administration related to the tasks listed above as well as other common tasks in the laboratory will occur.
Heavy lifting may occur as the work involves lifting and moving boxes filled with water.

Qualifications
The position requires:

• Completed High School
• Very good oral and written proficiency in English
• As the work can be physically demanding, a good physical condition is required

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. You must have great communication skills and collaboration skills.

The following are merits for the position

• Experience in breeding, rearing, and caring for salamanders
• Experience with CRISPR/Cas9 and generation of transgenic animals
• Previous work with aquatic species
• Experience in animal handling, professionally or at hobby level
• Bachelor or Master degree in a relevant field of science

The employment is a fixed-term position at full time during 1 year with start from 2023-02-01 or according to agreement.
