Description of the workplace

We are looking to hire a Research engineer/Engineer who will establish a computational protein structure prediction facility in Lund University. The new facility, LU-Fold, will be a university-wide resource, focussed on helping researchers take advantage of deep learning structural prediction methods such as AlphaFold2 to reveal new aspects of function of their proteins of interest. 

Lund University has a strong base in structural biology, combining many different methods. Our aim is to integrate the recent breakthough methods in deep-learning guided structural prediction into the research of different faculties of the University.

Work duties and areas of responsibility

You will be responsible for installing and running software on high performance computing clusters, and keeping software up to date. You will engage with users to directly discuss and plan projects, and be involved in educational workshops to help users make the most of their results. Structural prediction is a fast-moving field and therefore time will be set aside for literature reading and training to keep up to date with the newest methods and implementations. Other work duties within the research group might arise.

Qualifications


Requirements for employment are (include documentation where possible):

- For the title Research engineer 270 university credits or equivalent is required. For the title engineer a bachelors' degree or equivalent is required.  

-Substantial experience and up-to-date knowledge of protein structure and protein structural bioinformatics methods.

-Substantial familiarity with Unix/Linux-based systems including installation and running of command line software.

-Proficiency in Python coding.

- Excellent communication skills in English.

We will place great emphasis on personal qualities. You must have excellent interpersonal skills. You must also be service-minded and have an interest in collaborating with scientists with very different scientific backgrounds and projects. 

Additional qualification of merit:

-Familiarity with the application of AlphaFold2 and/or RosettaFold to different proteins/complexes

-Experience with running jobs on supercomputers.

-Experience in transferring skills to users within the research community.
