Description of the workplace and the project
The position is within the division of Communications Engineering at the Department of Electrical and Information Technology at LTH in Lund. The division has 8 senior researchers and around 20 PhD students, and a deep collaboration with industry. The division works within wireless communication in a wider sense and the activities span from communication theory to implementation of antenna structures.

Wireless connectivity in cars is no longer mainly about traditional infotainment. The use of wireless communication in vehicles is growing rapidly and is a key technology to increase road safety and efficiency. For accurate performance predictions, it is necessary to consider the whole system, including the influence of the surrounding environment, other vehicles, the networking stack and the application. V2X communication will rely on different underlying communication technologies. In order to make realistic assessment of the performance and study the complementary behavior of, e.g. 802.11p/ITS-G5 and 5GNR for vehicular communication (C-V2X) it is necessary to be able to make detailed and simultaneous simulation studies, including the whole network chain and proper temporal behavior.

We offer
Lund University is a public authority which means that employees get particular benefits, generous annual leave and an advantageous occupational pension scheme. We also have a flextime agreement that creates good conditions for a balance between work and leisure. Work duties
In the project you will initially work with a simulation framework based on NS/3, and Unity together with an internally developed model for the behavior of the radio channel. You will work with system and application level simulations where detailed models of the environment and antenna arrangements are used, parts of the communication system that are vital but also very specific in vehicular environments. You will implement cluster based channel models based on realistic environment descriptions achieved from detailed map data. To complement existing models in the literature, especially when it comes to directional properties in the considered scenarios, we might perform channel measurements in some selected scenarios.

The work duties includes developing, evaluating and implementing suitable channel models for the simulation framework, including realistic movement patterns, environment description, channel models and communication protocols. Project planning, participation and evaluation of possible measurement campaigns, and cooperation with possible project partners are also included. You are expected to contribute to the advancement of the projects and to disseminate the research results both nationally and internationally. The work duties also include up to 20% teaching, both in terms of undergraduate education and supervision. The work duties may change over time according to the needs.

Qualifications
Required qualifications for the position are:

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Experience from large scale simulations of wireless communication systems.
  • Doctoral degree, PhD or equivalent in wireless communications.
  • Experience from research cooperation with industrial partners.
  • Knowledge in wireless propagation and ray tracing simulations.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Experience from radio channel characterization and modelling.
  • Experience from vehicular communication systems, such as 802.11p/ITS-G5 and C-V2X.
  • Experience from tools for network simulations such as Omnet, NS/3 or similar.
  • Experience from frameworks for mobility simulation such as SUMO, Unity or similar.
  • Knowledge in C++, MATLAB and LabView.
  • Experience from GPU-assisted improvements of simulations.
  • Practical experience from RF measurements, especially RF channel measurements.
  • Independence and ability to cooperate with others.

Consideration will also be given to how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Further information
Employment is for an indefinite term with a scope of 100 per cent of full time, starting by agreement.

How to apply
Applications are to be submitted via the University’s recruitment system. The application should include a CV and a personal letter justifying your interest in the position and how it matches your qualifications.
