Description of the workplace

The post doc position is stationed at the division for Engineering Logistics that conducts innovative education and scholarly research in logistics and supply chain management. This means that we apply a flow- and process-oriented approach in our education and research. We focus on how organizations and supply chains can increase efficiency and effectiveness by managing and improving the activities, the physical flow of material, as well as the information and financial flows in the processes and supply chains. Areas of expertise include supply management, purchasing, materials handling, warehousing, rightsourcing, rightshoring, distribution and applications in food, retail, and manufacturing industries. Current research and project areas are: global supply chain management, supply chain digitalization, sustainable supply chains, distribution management, process and change management, and purchasing and supply management. We primarily use empirical research methods like case study research or surveys. Subject description

The position comprises research and development in engineering logistics with focus on distribution management and warehousing. Areas of special interest will be retail distribution and warehousing, sustainable supply chains, supply chain risk management, and critical infrastructure flows.

Work duties

The main duties involved in a post-doctoral position is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position includes the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning. The purpose of the position is to develop the independence as a researcher and to create the opportunity of further development.

Detailed description of the work duties:

  • Research within the subject area
  • Teaching in the first, second and third cycles of studies related to distribution management, warehousing, and SC risk management.
  • Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students
  • Actively seeking external research funding
  • Collaboration with industry and wider society
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above

Qualification requirements

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. The certificate proving that the qualification requirement is met must be received before the employment decision is made. Priority will be given to candidates who have graduated no more than three years before the last day for application. Under special circumstances the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Additional requirements:

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Very good knowledge of distribution management and warehousing.

Assessment criteria

This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.

For appointments to a post-doctoral position, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research and publish in highly ranked logistics and supply chain journals.
  • Teaching skills related to the focused subjects.
  • Research experience related to the focused subjects and empirical methods (case studies, surveys).

Other qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate.
  • Collaborative skills.
  • Experience in mentoring students and supervising Master´s thesis projects.
  • Knowledge in Swedish is preferable

Further information

This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of three (3) years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”).
