An essential part of the study is the comparison of different materials from different cultures within and outside the Nordic area. This entails a long-term perspective which is also of great importance for the assessment of many contemporary problems and developments. The focus in research and teaching is on theory, method, field archaeology and period studies including the Stone Age up to and including the Viking Age in a European context.
