Description of the workplace
The Regenerative Immunology laboratory at the Department of Laboratory Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine conducts research into the role of the immune system in regeneration. The research team is led by Associate Senior Lecturer Nicholas Leigh. The lab is a friendly environment composed of students, postdocs, and technical staff. The lab’s overarching goal is to understand the factors that allow for highly regenerative species to perform remarkable acts of regeneration (e.g. limb regeneration). Work duties and areas of responsibility
The education at postgraduate level is intended to lead to a doctoral degree in biomedical science, specializing in regenerative biology. The doctoral project is based on understanding how the immune system contributes to regeneration. The generation of various salamander strains will allow for uncovering of roles of individual immune cells in regeneration.
With input from the supervisors, the doctoral student will work to plan and execute studies, collect and manage data, contribute to lab duties, and disseminate research results in the form of oral presentations and written scientific articles. The doctoral student’s project will be presented in the form of a doctoral dissertation. The doctoral student must complete the required doctoral courses, participate in seminars and other relevant educational activities and become well versed in literature relevant to the research area. There is the opportunity for travel to conferences and for collaborations. All work will be performed in English.
The doctoral student is expected to actively lead a project and to participate in activities within the University. The student may also work on other tasks.

Eligibility
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

Basis of Assessment
The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.

Employment is a full-time, Temporary employment of 4 years, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance-HF 5 kap 7§ in Sweden.
