Description of the workplace 

You will work together with researchers in chemical and medical research areas, who are looking for your help regarding mass spectrometric analyses. The work is extremely varied and includes many different research questions. At the unit, there are two research groups in analytical chemistry, which gives you the opportunity to discuss analytical chemistry challenges and problems

Work duties 

You will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of the mass spectrometry infrastructure including associated chromatographic equipment at the Center for Analysis and Synthesis. This includes analyzes and method development, for both internal and external users, as well as supporting users of mass spectrometry at the unit. The tasks also include troubleshooting and maintenance of the instrumentation, e.g. oil changes in pre-vacuum pumps, calibration, cleaning of instruments and simpler interventions on the instrumentation. In the event of a major fault with the equipment, you are responsible for contacting the relevant service technician. You are responsible for booking the instruments, developing and maintaining user routines for the mass spectrometers, as well as, together with the unit's IT staff, handling and storing data generated on the instruments. You will be the supervisor of a small group of people (about two people at the moment), who maintain instruments at the unit. In this capacity, you will represent the technical staff at the Unity Council. The position may also include some teaching, as well as time for own research.

 

Qualifications  

Required qualifications for the position are:

  • A bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a similar subject
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English 
  • Documented knowledge in liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry
  • Experience with high-resolution mass spectrometry (QTOF or orbitrap)
  • Documented experience in method development in chromatography and mass spectrometry
  • Documented experience in maintenance of mass spectrometers and associated chromatography systems
  • Independence and capacity to independently plan and lead work in mass spectrometry
  • Good ability to collaborate and support people from different activities in the field of mass spectrometry
  • Experience in supervising employees and/or students

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • A PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of analytical chemistry or similar
  • Good oral and written proficiency in Swedish
  • Experience of working with instruments from several different manufacturers
  • Experience working with ion mobility mass spectrometry
  • Experience in quantitative mass spectrometry with QQQ instruments
  • Experience of structure investigation using MS/MS
  • Experience in producing documents for user routines
  • Experience handling bookings for instrument time
