Subject description
The research at the division of Mathematical physic within the Faculty of Engineering is conducted mainly in the field of quantum many-body physics, that includes theoretical nuclear structure physics and nanostructured quantum systems. The present position focuses on theoretical nuclear structure physics.

Work duties

  • Research within the subject area.
  • Teaching, development and leadership of courses at basic, advanced and doctoral levels.
  • Supervision of master and doctoral students.
  • Actively contributing to the department’s and division’s daily activity regarding management, administration and development.
  • In due time, actively seeking external research funding.          

Qualification requirement
Appointment to senior lecturer (“associate professor”) requires that the applicant has:

  • A PhD or corresponding research competence or professional expertise considered important with regard to the present position.
  • Demonstrated teaching expertise.
  • Completed five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or corresponding knowledge achieved by other means.

Additional requirements:
Very good oral and written proficiency in English.

Assessment criteria
Assessing the applicants, special importance is given to research as well as teaching expertise within the subject, with focus on research expertise.

For appointments to senior lecturer the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good international standing as a researcher within theoretical nuclear structure physics.
  • Good teaching ability, including a good ability to conduct, develop and lead teaching and other educational activities on different levels, applying a variety of teaching methods.
  • An ability to supervise doctoral students to achieve a PhD.
  • An ability to collaborate with wider society and communicate his or her activities.
  • A good general ability to lead and develop different activities.

Other qualifications:

  • Proven ability to, with analytical as well as theoretical methods, solve research tasks in theoretical nuclear structure physics relevant for experminental physics.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with other theoretists and experimental physicists.
  • Ability to seek external funding.
  • We expect that a non-Swedish candidate within three years acquires a sufficient knowledge of the Swedish language to be able to communicate with the Swedish University bodies.

Consideration will also be given to a good ability to collaborate, a general drive and independence. Particular emphasis will be given to how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research activities at the division of mathematical physics, and expected ability to contribute to its future developments.
