Description of the workplace

The position is located at the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund, Section V, Department of Medical Radiation Physics. The work will be carried out within Martin Bech's research group. The group includes two doctoral students and one post-doc. The workplace is physically located on the hospital grounds in Lund. All available technology is within the workplace. The work environment involves a large exchange between physicists, engineers and clinically active doctors and researchers. The business is working to establish micro-CT as part of clinical everyday life to improve diagnostics in various pathological conditions.

Duties and areas of responsibility

In the project, we have collected high-resolution microtomography data from human intestinal biopsy samples using synchrotron radiation. The purpose of the research project is to extend the existing data analysis pipeline developed for the publication "3D analysis of the myenteric plexus in the human intestine by X-ray phase contrast tomography" (1) to be implemented on the newly collected data. A number of intestinal biopsies have been scanned and are reconstructed in a database.

Your tasks will be to segment this data and determine the volume of the myenteric nervous system (the gut's own nervous system) in relation to other tissue in the gut.

Qualifications

The job requires:

  • We are looking for you who have an education equivalent to a BSc or MSc in physics, mathematics, computer science or similar.
  • We are looking for someone who has experience with volumetric image analysis, especially with the software Dragonfly (www.theobjects.com).
  • We also want you to have experience of programming in Python.
  • Good oral and written knowledge of English is required,
  • Ability to communicate
  • Ability to work together

The employment is a special fixed-term full-time employment for three months during 2023-03-01 - 2023-05-31 or upon agreement. We prioritize candidates who can work full-time, but there is also the possibility to combine employment with other occupations and work part-time.
