Lund University, Faculty of Engineering, LTH, Department of Physics

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

Description of the workplace

The position is placed at the Division of Solid State Physics at the Department of Physics, a division with around 100 employees where extensive research is carried out centered on various aspects of nanophysics, ranging from materials science to bio- and quantum physics to various applications. The division is a central part of NanoLund, Lund University's large interdisciplinary research Centre on nanoscience and nanotechnology. The division includes Lund Nano Lab, a central and shared facility for the production of materials and components at the nanoscale. The Division has a strong commitment to undergraduate education, not least in the Master's programme "Engineering Nanoscience" at LTH.

For the last twenty years our research in fabrication and advanced characterization of wide bandgap semiconductors has been in the international forefront. Most notably, we are currently directing a Vinnova competence center where we develop next generation high frequency and power electronics together with leading Swedish industrial partners.

We offer

Lund University is a public authority which means that employees get particular benefits, generous annual leave and an advantageous occupational pension scheme. The wide bandgap semiconductors group offers a strong research environment combining scientific excellence and industrial relevance with unique infrastructure and expertise.

Work duties

We are now opening a position as researcher to support our activities in the area of metalorganic vapor phase epitaxial growth of wide bandgap semiconductors (Gallium Oxide, GaN, AlN). The main duties of the researcher are to do research and to perform research tasks in terms of experimental work as well as data analysis and writing of publications. An important task of the researcher is to provide support and highly qualified expertise to all epitaxy activities in the Vinnova Competence Center for III-Nitride Technology and the Gallium Oxide projects. The researcher will furthermore be responsible for the commissioning, continuous development and maintenance of a new gallium oxide reactor, as well as related epitaxial growth equipment.

The researcher will not carry out research projects of her/his own, and, generally, the researcher will not be given the possibility to apply for external research grants in a role as principal investigator.

The researcher position is not a career-development position and there is no possibility of a future conversion of the researcher position into a teacher’s position (such as a lecturer or senior lecturer position).

Qualifications

Required qualifications for the position are:

  • You have a PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position.
  • You have very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • You have hands-on experience with epitaxial growth of wide bandgap semiconductors Gallium Oxide and group-III nitrides using chemical vapor phase deposition techniques.
  • You are independent and able to collaborate.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • It is an additional qualification if you have practical experience in designing and building chemical vapor phase epitaxial growth equipment.
  • You have knowledge of thermodynamic and thermal-fluid analysis of growth.
  • You have experience of electrical characterization of semiconductors.
  • You have documented ability to write scientific publications.
  • You have industrial experience.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how your experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Further information

Employment is for an indefinite term with a scope of 100 per cent of full time, starting by agreement. Probationary employment may be applied.
