Description of the workplace 

Environmental and Energy System Studies is an interdisciplinary division at the Department of Technology and Society. We have around 30 employees and are located in newly refurbished premises on LTH campus. Our subjects include studying and highlighting energy and environmental issues in a regional, national and global long-term perspective. We are looking for a researcher for a temporary position in a project focused on green biorefineries.

Work duties 

You will work in a project focused on green biorefineries using grasses and legumes for the production of biofuels, protein feed and potentially other biomaterials. In the project systems analyses are made covering the entire supply chains of biorefineries, taking into account economics, logistics, biorefinery process design, agronomy, greenhouse gas balances and other environmental aspects. You will work both independently and in collaboration with other researchers in the project. Much of your time will be devoted to the collection and processing of data and the development of mathematical models for the analyses to be carried out. You will also participate in the production of articles for publication in scientific journals and present results in connection with project meetings and possibly also conferences.

The assignment includes administration related to the tasks and support to the project management, if needed. This may include organization of project meetings and coordination of specific research activities within participating organizations.

 

Qualifications  

Required qualifications for the position are:

  • a PhD in Industrial Engineering or another subject deemed relevant to the position
  • very good command of written and spoken English
  • good knowledge in mathematical modelling, techno-economic analysis, and environmental systems analysis
  • experience in managing and independently conducting projects and studies with a focus on agricultural supply chains

Additional qualifications for the position are:

We consider it an advantage if you have knowledge in:

  • bioenergy systems
  • transport and logistics
  • optimization software such as ILOG, CPLEX and GAMS

We also consider it an advantage if you have:

  • experience from working as a post-doctoral researcher, for example as post-doc in universities or in another senior research position.
  • experience in designing and analyzing supply chains for agricultural bio-based products associated with green biorefineries.
  • experience in presenting research results outside academia.

Consideration will also be given to how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development. 

 

Further information 

The position is a fixed-term full-time employment during 2023 with start according to agreement.
