Description of the workplace 

The position is placed at the Department of Chemistry, at Division of Biotechnology but also involves work at Center for analysis and Synthesis located in the Center for Chemistry & Chemical Engineering in Lund (www.kilu.lu.se). 

Division of Biotechnology conducts research and education at undergraduate and graduate level within various branches of biotechnology (www.biotek.lu.se). The Division is highly international and strives to maintain gender balance. Most of our research deals with development of environment-friendly tools and processes based on biotechnology and green chemistry to achieve technical products and services.

Center for analysis and Synthesis conducts chemistry-related research and education. Particularly relevant for this position is polymer chemistry related research, including polymer synthesis and characterization.

Work duties 

The temporary researcher position involves research and development in the area of sustainable plastics, which will be performed at two divisions at the Department of Chemistry. The work duties involve:

• Development of isocyanate-free polyurethanes for use in adhesives and foams
• Preparation of samples for evaluation
• Supervision of a project assistant
• Discussion with industrial partners

Qualifications 

Required qualifications for the position are:

• A PhD degree in polymer technology or equivalent.
• Theoretical and practical knowledge of polymer synthesis via different catalytic reactions and characterization using different analytical techniques.
• Good ability for written and oral communication in English, and to communicate with researchers from different fields 
• Consideration will be given to independence in planning and performing experiments, good ability to collaborate with other researchers and students, and how the applicant, through his/her experience and competence, is judged to have the ability needed for the research project

Additional qualifications for the position are:

• Research experience in related field is of merit
• Ability to perform critical review of literature
• Consideration will also be given to how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

The position is for 4 months at 100 per cent and starting on 1 March 2023.  
Selection of candidates fulfilling the basic requirements will be done through interviews at our premises in Lund or online via zoom.
