We are now announcing a position as Postdoc with a specialisation in methodology, data analysis and visualisation in language acquisition and multilingualism. The position is connected to the research platform Language Acquisition, Multilingualism, and Teaching (LAMiNATE), and is located at the Centre for Languages and Literature, division of General Linguistics, Lund University.

Description of the workplace

LAMiNATE (https://laminate.ht.lu.se/) is a cross-disciplinary interdepartmental research platform dedicated to all areas of language acquisition, multilingualism, and language teaching/assessment. It brings together approximately 40 researchers. Research in the platform covers language acquisition and language processing (first, second and multilingual); multimodal language processing and learning; developmental language disorders; educational linguistics and language teaching, testing and assessment; and language, learning and the brain.

The division of Linguistics, located within the Centre for Languages and Literature is an international workplace with expertise in a range of topics across general linguistics and phonetics (https://www.sol.lu.se/en/lingvistik/research/), including language diversity, language processing in psycholinguistic and neurocognitive perspectives, and language development. Several ongoing projects are related to acquisition and multilingualism making this position highly relevant for the entire environment.

Work duties and areas of responsibility

As a successful candidate, you are expected to

  • develop an individual research plan but also to collaborate with LAMiNATE researchers around method development in language acquisition and multilingualism research, with a focus on data analysis, visualization, and advanced statistics;
  • publish in international journals, and participate in and present at international conferences in the relevant fields;
  • participate in LAMiNATE’s activities including talk series/seminars, outreach events, etc.
  • contribute to the division of Linguistics by participating in seminars and teaching.

Teaching, supervision and other administrative duties comprise a maximum of 20 % of the position.

Qualification requirements

  • A Ph.D. or an international degree deemed equivalent. The position is a career development post and its purpose is to act as an initial step on a career path. Therefore, the candidate most likely to come into question is one who has completed a doctoral degree no more than three years prior to the last date for applications. If special grounds exist, the degree can have been completed earlier. Special grounds include leave of absence because of illness, parental leave, positions as elected representative in trade union organisations, military service or service/assignments relevant to the subject area. In such cases, certification concerning this is to be submitted in connection with the application.
  • documented experience of language acquisition/multilingualism research, and advanced statistical analyses of quantitative data;
  • excellent skills in English, and good skills in Swedish.

Assessment criteria

The grounds for assessment are a good ability to develop and conduct high-quality research, and teaching skills. The main criterion for a postdoctoral fellowship is research expertise. As documentation for the assessment of qualifications, applicants are to submit a project plan of the research they intend to carry out during their appointment. Only applicants whose research plan and previous work could strengthen the research team and the project as a whole will be considered for the position of postdoc.

Specific qualifications of additional merit

  • documented experience of programming and/or computational linguistics.
  • documented experience of visualisation of data types within the relevant fields of research

Conditions

The appointment is limited to two years and refers to full-time employment in accordance with the central collective agreement on fixed-term employment as a postdoctoral fellow between the Swedish Agency for Government Employers and OFR/S, Saco-S, 19 November 2021.
