Subject description
We are recruiting a researcher to analyse an extensive dataset documenting the distribution of butterfly species in forest clear-cuts. The position will be part of the Formas-funded project “Biodiversity from field borders to production forests” lead by Prof Henrik Smith (Centre for Environmental and Climate Science, CEC), Prof Åke Lindstrom (Department of Biology), Dr Lars Pettersson (Department of Biology) and Dr Paul Caplat (Queen’s University Belfast).

Work duties

  • Collating existing data on butterfly counts, land cover, and road networks
  • Develop mixed-effect models and multivariate analysis
  • write a manuscript within the time frame of the employment

Qualification requirements
Applicants must have:

  • A PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Geographic Information Systems, habitat modeling and multivariate statistics, using R software.
  • Demonstrated ability to write peer-reviewed scientific papers

Assessment criteria and other qualifications

  • Knowledge of the Swedish land cover and butterfly data.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment,  until 30 June 2023. Startdate: as soon as possible.
