Description of the workplace

Our research group develop biophotonics and remote sensing of our biosphere. We currently explore how coherent scattering from insects could be used to estimate species richness.

We offer

Lund University is a public authority which means that employees get particular benefits, generous annual leave and an advantageous occupational pension scheme.

Work duties

We are investigating coherent laser radar methods for monitoring insect abundance and diversity, and now need assistance with data analysis of field data. We have multiple datasets from both Swedish country side and Ivorian virgin forest. The data resolve insect wingbeats in kHz in multiple wavelengths over distances of hundreds of meters.

  • Participate in field measurements
  • Evaluate multiband entolidar field data
  • Work with statistical moments in multiple domains; intensity, range, time and frequency.
  • Develop advanced dynamic signal comparisons and frequency domain methods
  • Work with unsupervised clustering methods and biodiversity estimation
  • Relate findings to our physical understanding of insect targets
  • Visualization of advanced concepts and scientific reporting

Qualifications

Required qualifications for the position are:

  • B.Sc, M.Sc. or Eng. In physics, electronics, mathematics, computation or similar
  • Experience with analysis of dynamic signals, digital signal processing or bioacoustics
  • Experience with advanced statistics and clustering methods
  • Excellent skills in Matlab
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Documented experience in analysis of dynamic signals such as master thesis work, internship and/or scientific publications.
  • Knowledge on ecology, environmental monitoring and spectroscopy .
