Description of workplace

The Lindstedt group is led by Professor Sandra Lindstedt, a senior consultant in thoracic surgery specializing in heart and lung transplantation, with a long-standing interest in lung transplantation related research, post-transplant complications and lung regeneration. The Lindstedt group has created ex vivo human models and in vivo and ex vivo porcine models of lunginjuries such as ARDS, the broad category of respiratory disease for severe COVID-19 patients. The Lindstedt group are currently working to develop mesenchymal stromal cell therapies within these models. The reseatch group is a part of the Division of thorax surgery at the Department of Clinical Sciences Lund and is located at BMC B13. Work duties

The holder of this position will mainly work on implementing experiments to investigate the efficacy and potential applications of mitochondrial transplantation in lung disease in particular lung injury in lung transplanted patients such as acute lung injury, primary graft dysfunction, and chronic allograft dysfunction, but also in lung cancer patients in the context of lung tissue repair and regeneration, using a combination of in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo approaches. In particular, this position will focus on the interpretation and translation between experimental/preclinical research and clinical medicine. 

The main responsibilities associated with this position entail the designing and conducting research pertaining to the project and includes obtaining, analyzing and managing data acquired for the project. Further, the holder of this position will be responsible for writing of high quality, academic papers to be submitted to international journals. The majority of this work should be done independently and in collaboration with both internal and external members of the team. Also, the holder will be adhere to strict ethical guidelines and maintain laboratory safety protocols to ensure a secure and productive work environment. 

Eligibility

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. This eligibility requirement needs to be met no later than the time when the employment decision is made. We will mainly consider candidates who have completed their PhD degree no more than three (3) years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier. These circumstances refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical work, positions of trust within trade union organizations or other similar circumstances.

Basis for assessment

At Lund University, employment as a postdoctoral researcher provides opportunities for scientific and pedagogical merit. There is mainly room for merit in research, but also for certain higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may be included in the tasks. For the employment as a postdoctoral research, scientific ability will primarily be taken into account.

Other qualifications

The following are also required for the position:

  • PhD in biochemistry, or molecular biology
  • Good knowledge in biochemistry and analytical chemistry
  • Experience with data handling and analysis, including statistics
  • Ability to run and coordinate interdisciplinary collaborations
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • High ability to work independently
  • Good problem-solving skills

The following are a merit:

  • Experience with standard cell and molecular biology techniques, including, cell culture, western blotting, ELISA, qPCR, immunohistochemistry
  • Experience with mitochondrial isolation and viability tests.
  • Experience with understanding of mitochondrial transplantation techniques and their application to lung-related conditions
  • Experience in organ transplantation

Terms of employment

This is a full-time employment limited to 3 years with preliminary start date on or after 1st of October 2023, or according to agreement. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral researcher”) between SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated November 19, 2021.
