The gas technician is part of the Engineering Team and will be responsible for
ensuring smooth and safe execution of gas cylinder/equipment management, inventory, and daily
preparations for facility experiments and operations with the help and supervision of the Gas and cryo engineer. The primary aim of this position is to ensure the daily operation of experiments and the gas systems, provide first hand support in gases and gas equipment’s for users, beamlines, and the other relevant groups in the facility.


Your main work tasks will be:

  • Daily collaboration with Experimental Safety Team (EST) and other stakeholders i.e., Floor Coordinators, and Beamlines to gain a comprehensive understanding of the gas requirements for user experiments.
  • Being the gas contact person for beamlines and a permanent member of EST, providing support in key factors such as pressure, volumes, purity of pure and mixed gases, as well as the available engineering safety controls so EST will be able to determine the permissible gas limits for the experiments.
  • Daily collaboration and information with floor coordinators on gas requirements, experiments, and operations to ensure continuous 24/7 support for user and beamlines.
  • Order, prepare, deliver and install gas cylinders and gas equipment according to needs at the beamlines experiments and safety restrictions.
  • Maintain gas cylinder logistics at the facility via ACCURA inventory system.
  • Filling and transportation of liquid gas vessels for example Helium or Nitrogen dewars
  • Ensure that gas cylinders and gas equipment are stored, handled, ordered and used in compliance to legal requirements.
  • Participate in installation, testing and maintenance of pressurized and gas safety related equipment at the facility.
  • Contact person to suppliers for gas deliveries and return.
  • Contribute to develop and provide training in gas cylinder/equipment handling and other gas safety related equipment.
  • Maintaining documentation of gases and gas equipment´s storage, inventory, maintenance, calibration and usage.

 To be successful in this role, we believe you need to have the following qualifications:

  • You have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in chemistry or engineering, and/or previous obtained experience from a similar position.
  • Practical knowledge in handling of gas cylinders and related equipment.
  • Hands on experience working with hazardous gases and pressurized equipment.
  • Ability to interpret chemical hazard classifications and Safety Data Sheets (SDSs).
  • Physically capable of handling a 50L, 80kg bottle of compressed gas with appropriate lifting tools.
  • High collaborative and communication skills. You are able to communicate fluently and effectively in English, both in speaking and writing.

Below are seen as merits:

  • Previous experience as a chemical/gas safety technician at a scientific/industrial facility or
    equivalent.
  • Previous experience in providing training in practical gas handling and gas safety related topics.
  • Trained in Swagelok equipment.
  • Experience in maintenance of pressurized systems.
  • Experience in maintenance and portable/stationary gas detection equipment.
  • Experience in orbital welding.
  • Basic understanding of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (PID)
  • Basic knowledge in AutoCAD or equivalent
